Meet Nathan

Originally from Long Beach, Nathan moved to the Santa Clarita Valley in 2014, quickly falling in love with the vast open spaces surrounding the city and the Angeles National Forest. He currently works for Southern California Edison in Technical Planning, focusing on projects that mitigate wildfire risk and modernize the electrical grid. Outside of work, Nathan enjoys camping, backpacking, skiing, and hiking, and volunteers extensively with the Pacific Crest Trail Association.

Before joining the utility industry, Nathan held various conservation roles. He worked with the California Conservation Corps, removing hazardous and beetle-killed trees in South Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevadas; with Ashley National Forest, maintaining trails in the High Uintas Wilderness; with the Los Padres Forest Association, building and maintaining trails; and with the Pacific Crest Trail Association, collaborating with volunteers and AmeriCorps trail crews.

Nathan’s extensive background in utility planning and conservation equips him with the expertise needed to serve effectively on the Water Board. His experience as a board member of a local conservation organization has deepened his understanding of water supply, quality, and infrastructure challenges in the region. Concerned about these issues, Nathan decided to run for public office to keep the community informed and offer his skills to address these pressing concerns.

As a long-time Santa Clarita Valley resident, Nathan is committed to preserving the community’s water resources. His platform focuses on ensuring safe drinking water, strengthening water infrastructure, and keeping rates affordable. Nathan understands the critical importance of the Santa Clara River to the area’s water supply and will prioritize environmental protection, responsible water use, and public transparency. Since much of the local water comes from the river and its tributaries, Nathan believes that safeguarding the river is essential to protecting drinking water.

Nathan recognizes the pollution challenges facing local groundwater, including the presence of ammonium perchlorate, PFAS, and volatile organic compounds, which have forced the closure of many wells and led to costly water treatment efforts. He is committed to holding polluters accountable and ensuring they bear the cost of clean-up.

Nathan is dedicated to representing working families, understanding how hard it can be to make ends meet. He supports a living wage for agency staff and contract workers.

Acknowledging the science of climate change, Nathan knows that as the planet warms, water resources in the Santa Clarita Valley may become scarcer. He believes in addressing recurring droughts in ways that minimize hardship for residents.

Nathan is also committed to taking the climate pledge and will not accept contributions from developers or oil companies. He believes the water agency can play a role in reducing greenhouse gases to slow global warming.

Nathan’s vision includes:

  • Expanding the use of reclaimed water

  • Promoting conservation through lawn replacement programs

  • Encouraging drought-tolerant landscaping

  • Increasing solar power generation and use
